Often the quietest part of Raglan, mainly due to the walk. A quality wave which maintains its form as the point is a straight run all the way down to Whale Bay. Whale Bay and Manu Bay are a little softer as the wave wraps around a curved coastline.

Beautiful, and strong. When its firing this is a truely awesome site, with big roaring walls of power - your legs will let you know when you've had enough. Hard paddle back agains the current.

Just pointing out, but... - actually the predominant swell direction is WSW, SW is the secondary dir. and it NEVER gets straight south swell, if you go directly south from raglan, you hit land within 100km (prob more like 15km), and the south island sticks way out to the sou' west blocking swell from that angle.....and the best swell is a WNW with a SE wind....very rare combo, but way hollower!!!!

Swell Direction - The best (and pretty much only) swell direction for all Raglan breaks is SOUTHwest. The prevailing swell on the entire west coast of NZ is a shortish (>15sec) interval south or southwest from below Australia through the Tasman Sea. Very rarely does it come from any other direction. Outside Indies is for good surfers with good manners and serious balls when it gets above 6 foot.

Point break heaven - A great lefthander rollercoaster of a ride, taking off on the rocks is the only way to get in a head off the locals who will probably drop in anyway. Early morning in the week and you'll have it to your self, well almost!
