Yoyos - been in Sumbawa at yoyos hotel, stayed in the surf camp for a week very clean with Air con tv, great early morning surf until about 10am at yoyos. short drive to super sucks and scars, there was a few other surfers around that i could tag along with. great chefs and great western food, wood fired pizza at the restarant and freindly staff. I suggest bringing a car or bike from Bali or Lombok makes life easier to get around. Roads are good all the way there.

Maluk Info - I was there last June for 2 weeks...Maluk (where supersuck is) is quite busy with the mine...a fair few ex-pat Aussie, American, Brit miners around. Accomodation costs 40,000 to 200,000 depending, cheapest places are in the side roads near the beach. Only a couple of bars to drink in so you tend to meet a lot of boat trip surfers who come ashore to get hookers.Sekongkang, about 20 mins by motorbike south of Maluk, is where Yo-Yo's is...two places to stay: a hotel (nice bungalow for 2-4 people for 100,000 per night ish or AC rooms for about 185,000) and a hometay place called Rantung Inn (other end of the beach from the hotel, rooms 40,000- really nice owners and always quiet, I was the only person there!) You need a mosquito net as all places don't have them. The beach is really nice and you'll be lucky if there are other people there- in 2 weeks I met 3 other surfers who were on land. There is a really nice hotel near the new airstrip (Tropical Airstrip- I think Merpati fly there) called The Tropical Beach Inn or something...this is about 10 mins further south, close to the turn off in the road to the mine (there are good retaurants and more bars at the mine entrance). There is supposed to be a wave here but it looked shit when I was there. If you go overland and stay here you will need a bike to get around, unless you just stay at Yo-Yo's and are happy surfing there.I went overland from Bali by bike...you can get here in a day if you leave Bali early and drive non-stop....definately the cheapest way to do it (I got to Lakeys for around 120,000Rp including overnight stay in Sumbawa Besar. If you get the 8am ferry from Bali to Lombok you can ride across Lombok, get on the other ferry to Sumbawa and get to Sumbawa Besar by 11pm that night. Lakeys is another 7hrs.) It's a really good way to do it if you've got plenty of time but you need an international driving license or you have to bride the cops at the ferry ports. Really nice country side on the way and small villages that hardly any tourists must go to.

yo yo's accomodation - Just returned from an indo trip. When we arrived at yo yos hotel, we were greated by the new manager, who told us the prices have gone up....the minimum price is 135,000rp per night, with one bed....also the american lady said she would not allow guys and girls to be the same bed together....a bummer for me and my girl....we walked 300m east along the beach to find a homestay, at 40-50,000rp a night for a room. The family here is really freindly, it is a good idea to have some indo language sorted though. The rooms are very basic.we got yoyo's over head and barrelling nicely (the break furtherest from the headland)...had it to ourselves until about 10:00am from sunrise...awesome.

sweet sumbawa.. - Had a great trip to Lakeys, although the trip didnt start out all that well. Booked a flight in Kuta to 'Sumbawa' and at check in were told we had booked to 'Sumbawa besar', not Bima which is a 5hr taxi to lakey instead of a 2hr one from Bima. Its cheaper to book a flight from the office at the airport; should be around 1,000,000rp, and we found the morning flights are usually booked up in advance. Youll be welcomed by a haud of taxi men at Bima, we payed 85,000rp each to Lakeys. Stayed at the Aman Gati - bit expensive for what you get, but the food there is good and big. Have fun and respect the locals.

what - YoYo's is really fun and rippable. It is very consistent, but gets blown by mid day. It can be somewhat crowded becuase if there isn't much swell it will be the only decent wave in west Sumbawa. Not to worry though, just like every other known wave in Indo most of the guys don't known their dick from their ass. Too many helmets reef booties and donkeys on 7'0's getting slapped when it's two feet.
Por mvans , 24-03-2003
not always perfect but can be, rarely. - i know it isnt that good most of the time but i had it one day very good.(the hook)a new swell was coming and supers wasnt good yet at 3ft.the hook was pitting on takeoff then wrapping into an air sectiony ripbowl.we surfed it many times and only got it good once though.
Por Maverick , 26-02-2003
yo yos, A BIG JOkE - Maybe the worst wave in indo. Yes its the only place breaking when the swells are small but you dont go to sumbawa to surf yo yos. this place looks like a average reef in southern california, which is pretty weak. If scars or supersuck is breaking dont go any further, yo yos is very dissappointing.
