PANAMA SUCKS too expensive and too crowded - Bocas is beautyfull but to surf is limited with few spots and the waves are small, if you stay in the city u have to go surf by boat, 5 minutes boat to Paunch reef is 8 dollars per person, iy u want to surf 3 times on a day u spend like 25 dollars only to surf, the locals take advantage because the roads to the beaches to surf are in bad conditions and u have to take a boat to surf. Bocas del toro is just a place to pass and go. there´s lots of places in Central America with better waves and less less less expensive. PANAMA SUCKS

paunch crowds - I just bought a house a couple of minutes from paunch. the crowd factor has gone up quite a bit from 5-8 people. was there from mid dec to mid january 2007. I counted forty people in the water on one day, and the average for the whole month was about 15 --20. the surf was good though surfes every day for three weeks, from double overhead to head high, it never dropped to small.defintely getting crowded. but still wort it. my house is small but close will rent for cheap if interested. size= thickness - i spent a season down bocas way and got this place in all its various conditions, under head high its a mushy pooper, but when a good swell pours in watch the fuck out, i tried back side grabrail drops on my single fin and ate shit all the time, i saw a guy free fall in on a set and get blown to shit by the spray like getting shot out of a cannon, people may say its a shit mush wave, they havent seen it overhead over head= thick barrels

hope the whole place hasnt gone completely to hell

paunch - just got back. 1st day i saw paunch it looked like a mushy beginner wave. paddled out a couple of days later with swell and the wave had a bowl with a thick lip and deep pit. couldn't believe it. heard a local say it was the best shape he had ever seen there. seriously great wave. same with carnerro point. spitting barrels with 8 sec. periods unlike anything in the pacific. it's crowded though and getting worse fast.

Active surf zones BDT - Is there a wave west of Bird Island? What sort of swell directions does the entire Bocas area get...is it North and NorthEast swells? How about west of Cusapin...Does that piece of land with the deep bay get surf.. Do swells wrap deep into the Chiriqui lagoon and create surf near Chirique Grande? Have many surfers been attacked by sharks in BDT....any beaches more sharky than the others? One more question...do swells make it to the beaches near Tobebe? Thanks to anyone who helps me out,share stoke/don't drop in/get out of the way/live and let surf!!!

check out nearby carenero - punch, yah ok, but do yourself a favor and pay one of the boatment (few bucks) to take you to isla carenero to la punta (or paddle and take a hike). you wont' be sorry. left point over a very shallow burnt orange reef, current....kinetic crystal caves await.

friends - over rated. also bocas del toro happenens to be the largest bull shark breeding ground in the world.
do your research, its true. two locals were eaten while fishing last year.
