short board in or - U can definatlly ride a short board here in oregon I have a 6'10" and a 6'4" and between the two I ride almost every where but u better get ready to take some punishment on a short board u live and die in the zone and paddeling u can take ten strokes and move 2 feet not exactlly crusing but the ride is what its all about it tricky and challenging my dog can ride a 9' but people who really enjoy surfing usually ride something in the 6' range depending upon height and weight. I learned on a longboard like most folks and unless im surfing with a chick or my dog I ride a short board

changing it up - Iv'e been living in Ashland for a while(yeah, long commute to the waves)and been riding a longboard for the last three years - now my curiosity want's to learn to ride a shortboard. I haven't met any shortboard surfers yet to point me in the right direction which is why I ask. Stay in Oregon? or is venture necessary to find those kind of waves?

- go to short sands, just south of seaside. you will LUV it. Trully one of the most beautiful beaches on the oregon coast. Within the area (20-30min) are a few shops that rent and sell.

1st timer!! - Hello all! My boyfriend and I try to go for a week of surfing once or twice a year, and pick a new spot every year. We've gone to Puerto Escondido (1month of surfing) (mexico), and tofino (1 week) (B.C canada), and we were thinking about going to the oregon coast for a week this summer 2005. We were wondering what places would be the best for beginer/not quite intermediate surfers. Also, somewhere fun, not too expensive. I think we are both going to buy boards also, b/c we really enjoy it. We wish we could do it all the time! anyways, please feel free to email me back, any info!!!!

no problems - I have been surfing the oregon coast for a little over a year and I have never had a problem with locals. And all the crap that some people think is usally not true. if you want to surf just surf and if someone else is out they probally love to surf also. because not everyone is about to go jump in frezing cold water.

locals should learn - The Core Local should at all times understand that other surfers have a right to ride at the spot he knows so well, and that his enhanced knowledge of the break gives him a responsibility as much as a reward. His responsibility involves leading the wave-sharing rhythm, keeping an eye on surfers who look like they might get into trouble, putting a lid on any bullying of kids by older surfers, and providing an example to the grommets and beginners of how to behave in a wide range of surfing circumstances. Taking care of these responsibilities will guarantee the reward (uninterrupted choice of the best set waves). Ignoring them and taking the reward anyway will guarantee ongoing ill-feeling in the lineup.

stay away - yes we have surf up here-a lot less good days than most places on earth due to our proximity to the storm track of the north pacific-we have fewer spots per mile as compared to so cal, n-shore, mexico etc etc-what i am getting at is be polite and respectful and you will be treated with aloha at most spots save for two i can think of one in WA and one in OR both on the pacific coast-one is a beach break and one is a left hand point-localism is alive and wellup here and gets ugly every now and then-they the locals kinda earn the rights to these two sopts---give them space and respect cause they earn it with every stormy macking swell the PAC O throws at them regardless of weather or time of year they are charging unless its TOO BIG which happens alot.just a reminder to the world its a crowded planet carry some common sense and aloha!
