English (Traducir este texto en Español): Busua Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Ghana. Fun punchy wave with lots of power on large swells, but closes out a fair bit at low tide. Best to surf on incoming high tide where it seems to get bigger with the tidal push. The beach is about 3 km long, the east of the beach picks up more swell but close's out more than the west. The west end of the beach breaks better but the swell is smaller as the small offshore island seems to reduce the swell. The Island has a right and left wave breaking from it. The right seems to have a better shape and the left seems to close out, but very shallow without a bigger swell. The Island can play on the nerves if surfing alone.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Great beach, friendly people. Nice and cheap guest houses to stay in and lobster dinners, fresh fruit juice, and banana pancakes for breakfast. The island is also a nice spot to camp at.
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Great spot with fantastic scenery. Also, another consistent and locally known wave is at Dixcove with about a 10-15 mn walk. Push on further to Akwidaa and Cape Three Points for adventure.

- A friend and I travelled to Ghana last summer for three weeks to surf. We surfed all the spots listed here. To be honest the surf wasn't the best, but we a good time. Busua is a great place to hang out. Just west of the town there appears to be a nice point break, but it would need more swell than we had.Not the best surf, but a fun experience. We didn't have any problems with currents and from what I have read there isn't a problem with inner-coastal sharks. The fishermen back that up.

what about the strong currents - can any one that has surfed in ghana tell whether it is safe because i have been told that you cant swim very far out to sea because of very strong currents.

In Ghana on May 15th - hi there. Im heading to Accra on May 15th, its my second time now, I was last there in Oct 04. I surfed Fete Shoulder height and krokobite, mush. I'll be working til the Friday am, then heading up the coast to look for waves. Flying back to the UK on the Following Monday. Not much time, but well up for a surf if anyone wants to hook up and get some waves together for the weekend. CheersMark (Langland, Wales, UK)
