Pondo Virus - You can easily be afflicted with Pondo Virus within a few days of being here . Its very easy . Pondo Virus is a condition (for those who have never experienced its effects first hand)which makes you lose your cellpfone ,be not keen to drive and or contact the outside world combined with a detachment from any form of responsibility except that of being most human. You will also just put your feet up when anyone asks you a hard question. BEWARE THE PONDO VIRUS.!!Alas,At present Pondo Virus as also affects the aforementioned famous wave and the brutal force of the March/April East swell has washed away the sand leaving a fickle trickle of a wave . Will likley need a really big swell(10ft) to work .5km as the beach crow flies Nrth of Mdumbi, Llawandile is still a sure bet.we got good waves and there is a mystical reef break 1km before which I am going to surf one day . gratitude and cudos to the peeps at Mdumbi Bekpeckers

- one of the best, if not the best, places in RSA. awsome waves and the lil backpacker fits right into the local community and supports them. no crowds at all and a super atmosphere! i've been there lots, but never seen any sharks, not even spearfishing/crayfishing between swells... but lots of dolphins though. check out: www.mdumbi.co.za and have look yourself!!enjoy!

Needs sand!! - Beaut spot but only breaks good when there is sand which seems to be a rare commodity these days. Not worth the mission to find the last 6ft swell has swept all the sand off the point and it is just a fat, short wave breaking next to the rocks. This is when you succumb to the comforts of Pondo fever!!
