English (Traducir este texto en Español): A fun wave, if you are just learning. Best in winter when it is consistent 2-4ft, also there are no damn shark nets getting in the way. You can see how big it is by looking at the small manmade island straight out to sea. If there is a lot of whitewater around it there is waves, if not, it is flat. A nice beach by Hong Kong standards, and not crowded on weekdays. Go early and you will have it all to yourself. I went at 9 and was usually the first in the water.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Full of kookdogs. Just go early and you will have a good time. When it is 3-4 ft there are two spots. One is a left, breaking right next to the hill on the left side(looking out to sea) of the bay. The other is a left and right breakning to the right of the right side swimming markers. There is also an occasional wave breaking right infront of the rocks on the right side of the bay. Go when it's big, but watch out for the rips.
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Fun wave, I learned to sponge here. Good place to learn, and fun, but forgiving when big.

BWB - I just surfed here about two weeks ago. Wave size changes regularly, and quickly. On days when it got big, the waves went from waist to head high suddenly, so you really have to watch carefully, or you'll get caught inside and sent through the washing machine. In my week of surfing at Big Wave Bay, most of the waves were closed out, especially the big ones. I didn't have any problems with the Hong Kong locals, but did with a Aussie kid.
Getting there is easier than anyone has described so far, since there are minibuses running straight from the MTR station to Big Wave Bay. Take the MTR island line, and get off at Shau Kei Wan, use the A2 exit, and take an immediately left. There are minibuses that run straight to Big Wave Bay, and cost $9-10 HKD. You don't need to take the number 9 bus to Shek O, then a taxi. I was able to take my shortboard on the minibus, too. You can also take the minibuses back from Big Wave Bay to the MTR.

Windsurfing at BWB? - Yo dudes, I'm gonna be staying in HK for 6 months come Jan 09. Can pp windsurf at BWB? Are there shops renting out windsurf equipment?

hiring - in reply to the person below me, there is a shop at bwb called surf 360, impossible to miss on the way down, they do many boards. Ask for nelson or waterman, he should tell you when the best day to go is.
