How is this break for Mals? - I'm an experienced longboarder (8"-9" boards) and a friend is planning a trip to Lembongan in Feb. How is this wave for longboards / Mals? I'm goofy and it says here that the left goes into the current and is less reefy than the right, but I don't want to surf out of my league or in a shortboard-only place. I respect the locality wherever I go, if this is surfable I'll go if not there are always other places.

Playgrounds - What swell does this work best on? are there gonna be waves with SW 1.5 m?

Nusa Lembogan - Surfed here in 1980 and have not been back since, though was Bali in August for first time since.Shipwrecks was great and good surfs at playgrounds-less crowded then of course and no accomadation just stayed in village. Does anyone have more info on Chinnanigans and is there any waves on Nusa Ceningan down the southern end.Looking at going back next year ,now on a performance long board but still like a good size fast wave being used to the waves in SW Australia.

wait for it - hit one of premium swells on Lembongan in September 2001. Lascerations was breaking solid 6-8 foot with ego-arseholes playing bumber cars in the channel. Shot over to Playgrounds. What a surf - breaking around 4-6 ft, the massive swells moving in to the little baylet were lifting boats and pontoons about a foot up. The good old Bali Hai cruiser was pumping Tom Jones for all the cocktail-sapping tourists on board and the dozens of surfers taking advantage of the swell, seemed quite ironically ridiculous. Nevertheless, when you in Bali and a monster swell is forecasted, hop over to Lembongan where the breaks are less threatening but bound to make your day

Shipwrecks and Playgrounds - Ive never surfed reef before i know playgrounds is good for me but should i try shipwrecks on a smaller day.. my uncle has lent me his villa there for my 21st bday so im expecting some reef rash pretty soon .. should i try the other brakes or just stick to playgrounds

- I was there in September, and Playgrounds was a dream. With high tide early in the morning we were out at first light each day, waves were around 4-6 foot and only about 10 surfers out. Apart from one bloody-great big rock that I kept ending up near, Playgrounds cured my reef-fear. But how good are the little local kids on their boards the size of a postage stamp? They steal every wave!

mid may 07 takes the cake - Sure playgrounds can be soft and fun. However it can get to be a handful too. Its very tide dependent. May 07 it got a bit out of control - with the odd right through (well you couldnt surf it) from lacerations through to playgrounds. Mushroom Bay looked like Impossibles and as the tide dropped the pontoons in the channel got smashed . . .The day after it was surfable and with the tide starting to drain, a guy paddled over from a boat. He said his skipper was calling it the biggest surf he'd seen during 20 years sailing in nearby waters.

crowds - it is so funny, all the people who have been there and complain about crowds write their messages in summer, mostly july and august, i think someone should better differentiate
