English (Traducir este texto en Español): The center of the beach has the best break. It is easy to find, friendly and there might be as many as five surfers.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Very relaxed beach lifestyle with plenty of restaurants and places to stay on the beach. there are two ferries daily from Ranong town to Koh Phayam.
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): I would not make this a destination, but if you were traveling through southern Thailand, Koh Phayam is a great place to relax, ride some waves and enjoy the beach. Sept/Oct and late April/May are best.

Why so serious? - I am an intermediate surfer from Germany and decided to surf in Koh Phayam while traveling in Thailand in late April 2016.I thought the island could be relaxed with a pleasant surf environment. I was wrong! I took a small wave (0.5 meters surf) and I apparently "dropped" in on another surfer but the other surfer was very very far away from me. Some bald Australian man who wasn't on the wave yelled at me and was very aggressive to me and get in my face close. This Australian man lives on the Island and is acting like the boss of the waves in Koh Phayam. I did not like the vibe of the surfing scene here. The island is beautiful and the Thai people are very nice, but this Australian surfer and his friends are very unpleasant making it a bad vibe in the water. They were out everyday and trying to intimidate other surfers also. The waves were very small and I didn't understand why these surfers were so serious over this kind of small beach break.
