mini- - this wave is not that insane. surfed it every day i was in fiji for 2 weeks. evryone i surfed with, surfers and bodyboarders were taking off. i hate the fact everyone says its too shallow? its as deep as your average reef back home. and to an extent that guy who said he surfed it in the 90's first is a complete liar. the guide who took us out said people had been surfing it for years. and it doesnt matter if you name this spot. who is going to get a boat and paddle the thing out there. it will never be overcrowded. get over it and stop making out its your local.

Inconsistant!? - I think you need your head checked 'world traveller' if you think Fiji doesnt get much swell!!It lays smack bang in the path of EVERY South-west swell that comes up between New Zealand and Australia(not to mention south and south-east swell), and living on the west coast of New Zealand I know that is a LOT of swell...Cloudbreak and other magnets like wilkes, king-kong left and frigates would be some of the most consistantly breaking waves in the world!!Mini-cloud however, Being sheltered inside the reef somewhat is not one of these spots.I was one of the first people to ever surf mini's in the late 90's when I took my board out on the dive boat when they went to the 'rainbow cascade' dive spot, and it was 4-5ft and perfect,I saw a wave spit no less than 7 times!!The dive master said no one had ever surfed there cos it was too shallow, but I soon put that myth to rest...yes, deadly on the low, but with a big swell and a bit of water, its epic!!

this place hurts - was there a few years back. After a week of going mad because of onshore winds and no surfing we asked if we could be taken for a surf ( from Seashell Cove resort ) The only option available was this place. It was about 3 foot on the sets breaking in about 6 inches of water or onto dry shelf. I managed to smash my head on the reef and took quite a bit of skin off my face. In otherwords this place is pretty freaky. I am not a great surfer but have ridden quite a few reefs and this place freaked me more than anywhere. About 6 guys out and only myself and one other guy were game enough to get waves. Maybe with a bit of extra water over the reef or maybe a bit more size it could be more fun but I highly recommend a helmet and a neoprene vest or spring suit. ouch

agreed - world traveler is right on the money...inconsistency plagues this break, but when it's on it's SICK...i've got some incredible barrels at this place, ones that stack up with the best of them...but get ready to air drop and pay attention to the swell direction & wind--depending on these factors taking off way deep either becomes incredibly worthwhile or incredibly stupid...hope you get it good!!

Check out shot 10 at cloud break - THe top end of the break doesnt haddle the SE well, but further round the bend haddles just fine,They posted my shot of mini cloud on the cloud break section, you can see the top of the break in the SE getting torn apart, how ever where we were was just fine.

- this place was the only spot I got to surf on the west coast of the main island( viti levu )due to the winds which howled everyday. It was only a few feet but I managed to headbutt the reef ,mash my face and bust my lip open. Breaking in about 1 foot of water, fast , hollow and farkin scary. Only myself and one other guy taking waves everyone else was sitting back watching us get slammed into the reef. Good for a buzz of adrenalin but recommed a helmet and a neoprene vest to give yourself a bit of protection.

The truth about Mini - Mini Cloudbreak usually breaks at half the size of Wilks, the main break for the surfers of SeaShell and Rendezvous, which actually numbers A LOT of surfers. When Wilks is head high or slightly overhead, Mini Cloud, will be waist and barely pushing. The info about it being offshore 70% of the time is total bullshit. The prevailing wind actually blows more cross shore or onshore and often blows hard making for frequent bum trips to the spot. However, dont think I am talking poorly of this wave. This wave is insane, when the stars align Mini Cloudbreak performs like a certified World Class wave: totally sick, completely beautiful and full barrel. I have had some of the best sessions of my life there, but it all too often simply dissapoints. And the reason so is because of mainly of insuficient swell and not the other reasons. Truth is, Fiji in its waves season, which is roughly March to September, is simply not a consistent place. It gets waves, beautiful waves, but I firmly believes that it has a bit of a consistency issue. From a unbiased surfer
