fences - just scored at 3 foot, very clean, pealing for 300 meters, oponaki had been tripple over head and light offshore, went the soft option but hadn't scored a wave as long in my 20 years of surfing!Watch your car though, it can be rugged if we know your from out of town!!!.Enjoy!

Yeah you gotta rate Fences - I always check it out when driving to Taras. Hardly ever breaks but when it does its great. We really kooked it up one day when it was looking really nice but we got greedy and decided to check Opunaki. Yep two hours later the SW wind came in and blew the coast to shreds. Missed it. Talked to an old guy who surfed it in the 70s and he said on a huge swell you can get from Waitotara right through to the inside. Not sure about that but when its on it is definatly a great wave. Plus cause its so hard to get, theres nothing like telling all ya mates ya scored - "FENCES! yeah man , rides all the way from Waitotara to the inside, you losers should have been there!"

Fences - ha ha makes me laugh reading some of the feedback here. Fences rocks big time..one of the best rights, it's a break you have to know what swell direction it needs..people think it'll only work when the coasts huge or when wanganui is maxing...ha ha not true, yea the bigger the coast is the more swell hits the point, but that's the case anywhere aye...nah it,s knowing the conditions for it, I've scored it 3 ft and wanganui was only 2.5 to 3 ft...the best surf there is the dawn mission as the wind changes the place quickly...when it,s solid there ain't no cutbacks going down..it's full on frieght train material and can go til ya legs start giving way...no shit, local knowledge has kept it uncrowded search on coz when ya work it out you'll no when to hit the place...the place can look like j bay and barrel just the same...rock on fences...
