This spot is behind the main breakwater at the port, right at the base where the breakwater begins. You can see the islands in the photo just offshore.
The swell along the breakwall here starts working at about 2 m and holds up to 3 m or 3.5 m. It only works at low tide, with the wind from the south-east, east or north-east and the swell from the west or the south-west. It's a reef break, both right and left, and the waves are powerful if not especially fast. Length can be good here, with even an average day seeing up to 150 m along the breakwall.

fun,wedgin left - i surfd here with my m8 about a year ago.the port ppl wudnt let us drive thru so we had 2park at the bottom of paratutu rock thn walk dwn a track till we got to this dam and had to paddle ova walkd 4 another 400m thn surfd mikotai,it breaks off a rock and is a left hander tht peels 4 ages.afta catchn a few waves,we paddled 2 the end of the breakwater and surfd tht

good waves to b had - this is a v good wave and works more than people think,i worked at port a few years back and used to surf here alone heaps
