Fa - I was a nineteen year old surveyor when I laid out and directed the construction of the Mt.Alava road. The cable car was still there, but was hit by a plane on the big 4th of July celebration a couple years later. I lived in FAA housing across from the airport, and was only aware of one break at the time. It was halfway to Pago from me, and really never looked that good. There was a Western Samoa chief who lived across from it, and his kids (Californians) used to surf there. I remember being told that there were good waves on the backside of the island, and a local school teacher used to surf there. I remember the White brothers from Pago, Charlie Green, and making killer mushroom juice from the mushrooms at Mapasanga c.c. It weas truly an unspoiled paradise back in '76. Those trucks from the tuna plant were tough though....whewww! I tried to steal the license plate from the Governors limo, and wish I had...but I still have my A.S. drivers license. Donnesbury did an awesome satire on this place...stereotypical and a riot! I hung out with a guy named Ben from Tafuna one time on his plantation, on a full moon night, with a couple guitars and a ukelele...one of my fondest memories....knew a girl named Maina. Just rambling here....Ron. The email address is real, but may have a block on it.Herb and Cias...sols...the taproom...scanlons store...Junior and the all stars...Jenny Fields...my God, almost forgot her! What's up?
