- I was in Samao this April and brought my board without any plans for going...hooked up with local resort and went out to YTops for session and it was went off for 4 hours straight. Glassy, big and fast.Surfing trips are always a crapshoot. Suck it up and take a chance. Whats the worst that'll happen? Stuck in Samoa? Shit, that sucks. And in all honesty, I should have never been out there. Only surfed for two crappy New England summers and past couple months in NZ. Reef was shallow and scary, board was a mere 5'11" swallow tail...best 4 hours in the water ever. Again, my advice is to suck it up and go for it. Only way you're gonna find out anything.
