English (Traducir este texto en Español): This is an inconsistent, lumpy wave which requires a full tide and a reasonable swell running. However, when the conditions are right it produces a fun left, with a technical takeoff over rocks, a fatter middle section and sometimes a link to an inside section (on smaller swells this closes out on to the second rock-point by the camping beach). Best to paddle the long way round to get out rather than try going in off the rocks on the point. It can be done, but get your timing right!
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Killer. There is a bar/hotel right there, the 'Mar Azul' - have a sun-down beer watching your mates ripping it!
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): The Mal Pais beach breaks are usualy better quality waves, but if you want a different wave, or are staying at Mar Azul and can't be bothered to walk 20mins to Mal Pais.... Lastly, when you're there: check out the big bommies (offshore reefs) out the back and to the south (in the next bay...) some radical looking spots start working as the swell picks up. Ask the locals!
When the swell is too big or messy to get out at Mal Pais / Carmen, check out Mar Azul. You might be pleasantly surprised. Worked for me on a S/SW head high swell that made Mal Pais / Carmen difficult to get out. Mar Azule was flat as a board except at the break. Fun time!

Mar Azul - Mar Azul is a great wave witch actaully boast a left and right break seperated by a huge slab of rock thats exposed during low tides. Both break best when an overhead swell has hit the left being my favorite or the two despite being regular foot. There are two main rocks that the left breaks off the furthest out near the start of the wave is sometimes exposed when padding for the ride which makes for some excitement. Breaks best on an out going tide and the inside can be dangerous during lower tides. All around an awesome spot though fickle with the tides. Stayed at Mal Pais Surf Camp which is run by an awesome laid back guy Doug Packman. Check out the spot and the camp for a great few days during your trip.
