English (Traducir este texto en Español): You can see your vehicle from the water at about 50 to 70 yards out (depends on the size).
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Really quiet,no hassles. Warm water, sun, great waves. Very challenging when it gets big. Places to stay and eat. Even better in Tapachula (20-30 minutes). I wouldn't advise anyone to camp however. Forget travelling at night. Find a place to stay where you can secure your vehicle and belongings (what's new?).
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): It's a great spot to visit, but I wouldn't invest in any real estate.

- i've been there for 2 days, unfortunately the left wasn't working that great so i had some small rides between the last two jetties. there are definitely some rocks under the water, not only next to the visible ones. a local fisherman told me that during cold-water-swells sharks might appear at the coast, but - as he said - only at the southern part of the jetties.
the small hotels in puerto madero are okay for a night or two when there are good waves. of course tapachula offers a bigger range of hotels and restaurants etc and looks a lot nicer. there was no surfshop in the centre of tapachula, but i heard that there is a mall outside the city called "francais" - or something like that - where they have boards and some equipment.

finally checked it out - I checked this place out after many years of mixed stories. My view: The water looked a bit suspect, but I didn't go in. Waves were maybe chest high, and a couple boogie boarders were out on one of the rights that came off the jetties. Not many surfers in town, only a couple from what I gathered talking to one of the locals who saw my boards. The upside....the last jetty to the North has the setup to be a really good looking left. Kind of rocky, but a nice curve to the shore coming off the backside of the jetty. Catch it on a medium to big 180 to 190 degree southerly swell. A couple small restaurants at the end, who would be loyal to your gear...right next to a small cemetary. I wouldn't really go there unless you are in transit, and get lucky. I liked the main town, btw.

I lived in Tapachula - Well, I'm from Spain, and i lived in Tapachula for 4 months. I went usually to Puerto Madero, and I didn't see it really working anytime, it's not a high quality wave. It's just worth if you live there. I wouldn't advise you going ther if you only purpose is surfing. If you surf there, be carefull with rips, they are really dangerous there, because it's a very open sea.
