Request to the Editor - Seems that some people are using this site as a personal battleground. If possible can the comments be edited?

low key get away - Just spent 9 days in Punta de Mita, great little low key town, several beaches to surf at. Stayed at Villas Las Olas, great place, large suites, reasonable prices and super hospitable owners. Got the best recipe ever for tortilla soup!

Mita - I have been traveling to this area for 15 years and I currently own property in La Cruz. I do not know dave, and besides what is on this site I have never heard anything from travelers or locals about him. I do know that the locals (mexican, not expat) in this area are some of the friendliest, respectable and most loyal people you could ever meet. I know that if you are a decent honest person who shows respect than you will be treated the same. If the comments on this site are true than dave has obviously wronged the locals in some way and they have decided that he and his guests are no longer welcome. There are plenty of excellent cheap accomodations in the area go to one of them, not dave's.

Been There Done That - I used to go to Dave and Irenes (Irene is great) to surf, dine and party. After having my car window smashed and tires slashed while there and finding our the locals TRULY hate this man I don't go anymore. Not worth replacing windows and windows. Dave acted like "so what not my problem", but Irene was great and slipped me a few bucks to help out. He has crappy drugs anyway.

Think I'll pass - I just happen to be online looking to make reservations for my well deserved vaction next winter. I was thinking of reserving at Casa Las Palmas but after reading of the drug and theft problems there I think I'll look elsewhere. Thanks everyone for the heads up on the problems. Love Mexico and will be ripping the waves ASAP

Lets tell the whole truth - I have personally stayed at Casa Las Palmas 2 years ago. I don't know where he scores but me and other guests smoked both pot and hash provided by Mr. Forbes. Lets not throw rocks when we live in glass houses.

Casa las Palmas - Thanks Jabberjaw and the others that have responded positively about Casa las Palmas----now it's my turn. David Kaye who is a half American Indian, and says (he will work for no white man),and hates capitalism, but yet he brings hash down from Canada in his lined pants, and sells it,and that's how he manages to somewhat survive living in a tent in Sayulita next to the sewer field. A year ago David was living "the life of Reily" in my motor home free and as my surf guide. I had to let him go cause he was not a licensed captain. He took off for 3-months and the motor home was missing glass in 2-windows which he knew about! It's true, a mexican that was painting here stole some of his stuff including a 357 mag. and a 30 30 rifle. I compensated him with one thoudand dollars and said he would have to leave which he agreed to, but shortly after he sabotaged my six thousand dollar motor by puting acid in the crank case. The moral of this story ? If you sleep with dogs you're going to get flees.

Casa Las Palmas - Well it looks like an argument going on about this place. I'm writing this message from that very place right now, as a guest here with my new wife, Amber.
To the point.
I'm having a blast and this place is beautiful. There's a celebration of something and it's a cultural extravaganza in progress.
Dave is a little intense but I think he's kind of funny about it all. He tells me how the locals steal from him alot but he still hires them all to help in his expansion efforts.
Irene, his wife, is an angel.
If I recommend that nobody stay here it may do me some good because at least then I know I'll always get a suite.

Casa las Palmas - Concering the letter dated 30th June about the owner David Forbes and his guest house,Casa las Palmas. This person has no knowledge of the real Mr. Forbes who is extremely disliked in the Mexican town Punta de Mita by Mexican and foriengers alike. He is an aggressive man with no concern of the well being of others and has constant problems with thieft and security of not only himself but also his clients at his business.

Casa Las Plamas goes above&beyond - I wanted to respond to comments made about Casa Las Palmas vacation rentals.
What a great place it was and what a wonderful experience I had. You will seldom find two people(David and Irene) more committed to making your stay so beautifully memorable. It is obvious neighboring establishments similar to theirs see $$$ and offer less in comparison.
The idea that Mr. Forbes hires locals to steal from their tenants is simple, ridiculous farce.
They proved to me , during my stay, that they wanted me to enjoy the location for the same reasons they did. The beauty, the culture, the affordability and the pleasure of feeling safe and secure. The prices they charge for all of these things has nothing to do with financial gain...they offer a service that is unsurmountable to the local "big time" competition.
If you can get reservations at Casa Las Palmas in Punta Mida...don't hesitate.
I don't know jc or the other "anonymous" post but i'm sure they had disrespectful intentions to begin with and perhaps were not able to take full advantage of this dying breed of private owned housing.
I wil stay in no other place while im in the area.
