yes and no - since the last entry two years have passed and I can say that there is still some truth to all the previous entries. Entry DOES cost money but if your willing to walk a bit and leave your car unattended in the tiny village closeby you don't have to pay anything.
sewage is a problem now and then (I've been living in Managua for the last 1.5 years and going to San Diego about twice a month)as area is getting more and more developed. I haven't got an infection yet but just the smell out in the water can be a bit upsetting. also when Nica tourist show up the beach is covered with plastic bottles and other trash.
waves can be spectacular if conditions are right but always people out and always people who know how to surf well (with me being the exception)!! be ready for cuts and bruises and a competitive vibe but yes, if your lucky also some amazing barrels.
Popoyo is definitely worse with crowds but crowd includes all levels of surfers and the wave allows for the crowd to spread out more so in the end you might actually end up catching more than in San Diego with 8 semipro people out.

Hemmoroids - Whats with all the trash and bottles? You Nicas have to learn to pick up your trash. Seems like the river collects and dumps trash right into the ocean. Roll your windows down and take all belongings out of your car. This way they won't have to break your window. Go during a high tide. Wear some booties in case you step on the spiny sea urchins. Access to the beach is $10 now. $5 goes to the restaurant and the other goes to resort. Better places to surf in Nicaragua then this spot. Water quality was sort of sketchy from run off. Be careful after rain storms. They do not have proper sewer treatment etc, water regulation. You will get sick if you go after rain storm. Any open skin cuts will be infected.

Ha ha ha - I love these guys who make up these stories about spots so nobody will go there. There is nothing and I mean nothing worse than some douch who moves somewhere or buys land somewhere and tries to claim a wave is his. Best way to get waves anywhere in the world? Respect the locals. They will take everything you think you own if you don't. Basically if the comment is 'anonymous' it's bogus, too.
