Quite good for bellyboarding - I stayed here for 4 weeks in March/April 2018 and went in a few times with my British style wooden bellyboard. This was good fun.
I was surprised how sheltered this beach was. A sheltered north facing beach in North Cornwall like Harlyn Bay would typically have far bigger waves, far more often at this time of year. That said, the weather was apparently rather cold and peculiar in Brittany this winter/spring, so perhaps my experience is misleading.
Generally the waves were pretty small and I only spotted people surfing about half a dozen times in that month. SUPs and kayaks were a bit more common.
The main thing that struck me was that the water wasn't nearly as clean as I'm used to in Cornwall. Indeed, when I was there Douarnenez council was talking about closing this beach for swimming if matters don't improve!
At low spring tide you can walk along the beach from Plage du Ris to Trezmalaouen (Kerlaz) and Kervel (Plonevez Porzay), which are essentially the same beach. Both looked far better for "proper" surfing. There seem to be far more surf spots in this area than shown on this site!
The chaotic waves caused by backwash off the sea wall at high spring tides is fun to watch, although I didn't see any of the mad surfing shown in various videos of Plage de Ris on YouTube. (There may have been some a couple of times - I think I was elsewhere.)

Great Waves - I got to surf on christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day in december 2006, and have to say it was awesome.Nice big overhead waves with an offshore wind, perfect for longboarding and shortboarding, best of all, i have in-laws that just live 2 mins away, just the perfect spot.
