Cap Ferret, the true story - Early one morning Capt. Ferret was on his way to the harbor were Nude the tug was moored. Capt Ferret was a Tug Captain and a very good one at that. Nude the tug and Ferret often found it hard in the morning and did not get going until the sun was well in the sky. Being a european Tug Nude was not modest but did like a bit of privacy in the morning. On this morning you would never believe what happened. Before Capt Ferret could finish his latte a long haired surfer from Australia jumped on Nude, Ferret and into the water. Foaming Latte all over the place. Those Australain boys said a small French girl in a pocker dot frock. An old English gent on vacation almost pooped his pants.

be careful - If you're surfing on the Aquitaine coast for the first time, be careful with the so called "baines". The currents there are extremely strong. The cool is, when u get one of these, it 's a bed of ease to paddle to the peak !! they're the strongest in mean-tides, so watch out : the first time it can be really surprising. (For example, u could have water to the waist, or up to the knees, and still be unable to walk back...). U can get more information with the locals, who are NOT stupid, whatever says CRACOTTE. The global ambiance in the whole region is pretty cool, I think.
Last thing I want to say : there are many tourists in this spot. Each year, many unaware people die because of these currents : so keep an eye on the swimmers (especially the children), you might have to help one.

How did it get it's name? - My last name is Ferratt, and I'm wondering if it is related to Cap Ferret in any way. Are there any Ferratts there? Please e-mail me at an_g27@yahoo.com

how to surf a good cap ferret ! - Cap ferret is a very versatile spot.chose a little coefficient go near the end of the tide (low or high)in order to have less current... if the swell is to big , go to the south of the presqu 'ile cause the swell is always cleaner than at the north.(2.5meters in lacanau:2 meters clean in cap ferret). SOMETIMES you can have a spot at high tide at the southest of the presqu'ile :you may have a west wind with 3 meters of swell...
BUT DON'T fotget than locals of cap-ferret are the stupidest in france , be sure that they have the worst felling in our country.
see you soon . CRACOTTE

Now that I am 6...... - I've never had the pleasure of going to this spot....... could anyone help us by completing the details, rating, difficulty, Tide, Wind, Swell data etc? Either by re-doing the add-spot form, or via email or feedback on the spot.

Thanks, and glad to hear that it is un-polluted: too many beaches are coming in with health warnings!
