surfcamps suck - Rent a room with the locals , they surfcamps will charge you more.

don't book in advance.. - .. we booked part of a house from one of the surf schools and they really screwed us on the price compared to what others getting the same package only paying on the spot was paying. You can always find a nice little peak in praia do baleal for youself, and its really good for learning. Keep your eyes open for spots and waves to your liking along the bay, and go in the high tide. If you wanna buy gear, go to 58 surf shop. Really helpful and definitely the best around.

surfcamps suck - the surfcamps are ruining a place that once was known for soul surfing.
Surfing for sale.
When supertubes is breaking only 5 or 6 guys out.

Baleal surf camp - PARTY , PARTY , PARTY. Best camp in town , just rertified surf Teachers , da base of the camp is at nice beachbar where everything happens in Baleal.
Best looking people , best location , best summer surf spot . The other camps are full of men , 58 surfcamp ( germans ) and Penichesurfcamp ( english hooligans ). DONT FORGET BALEAL SURF CAMP

- i stayed in peniche for a week in october 2001, the weather was good and the surf was consistant. supertubos didnt work while we was there but baleal and lagide was good fun. if your running out of money, its a good place to end your tour. the surf wasnt crowded and the locals were friendly.

Don't generalize Germans - You are certainly right about some of them. They are agressive because they have to pay much money for something you always have. The most important thing is to tell them peacefully the rules of priority of the waves. When I began surfing is used to have problems as well but now I am an open-minded person which respects the enviroment and the locals. So there is at least one German who is not what you call a bastard
