When the wind is from the S/SW blowing sheep off Exmoor and the swell is 8'+ you might just get a wave. Don't bank on it though!

Can be crowded when its working because there are very few other spots that work when this wave starts to wind off. Nice little wave though in the depths of Winter when you don't want too many duck dives.

1965: Lynmouth had closed out - There was a SW hooley. It may have been Dec or Jan ... We had looked at Porlock Weir in the past and knew that when the conditions were right Porlock Weir might just be a goer. Lynmouth had closed out, so we raced up and over County Gate and whazzed down to Porlock Weir where the tide was pushing the swells against an offshore 'breeze' .... It was magic for about an hour and as the storm tracked away so did the surf. We had only one more occasion at PW, and then the waves were a soft right .... As far as I know I was the 1st person to surf PW followed by Fuzz, Guns, and Budgie. :)

Locals - I'm local to nowhere, but in the winter I find myself seeking out waves that are non existent in the summer. It's because I want to surf I want to see what this country can offer us. So I try different spots, I keep myself well away from the people already in esp. if they know what they're doing. I make sure as much as is humanly possible I don't even so much as look for a wave the guys are paddling for until either (a) my wave count is 5 times less than theirs or (b) it's swung out wide and no one but me is anywhere near it.
I always say hi, I praise the wave, and guess what?
I get no problems.

Jazzer - Hey boys cool yer jets.

I have surfed Porlock since the mid eighties and things move on and places get crowded. As for localism it's all a load of old bollocks. Are you telling me the locals don't go to other peoples local breaks. You have all been reading to many surf mags. You boys don't own it nor were you the first to surf it, nor was I.
