Hilton - I`ve surfed the 'Hilton' since 1974. Nir Almog (Topsy`s son & owner of 'Intersurf')& I started to surf it when the Frishman beach was ruined by a new wave barrier. We knew that there was a reef there & we could see that produced supreme waves. As we were the only ones around at that time with surf-booties we felt confident enough to surf it. Since then we`ve 'never looked back'. It has proved to be the most consistently breaking wave in Israel & the most consistent quality wave here. Until the late 80`s the huge volumes of water released from the Aswan Dam (up the Nile), flowed down thru` the river delta & gave an 'extra-push' to the 'Isreli-bound' waves. In July & August the waves got so big (up to 3 metres!) that often yachts/boats were caught coming out of the marina entrance & were washed onto the reef! We`ve surfed classic 2 - 3 metres there for years &, with the early morning north-west swell combined with an easterly offshore wind, it`s just classic 'A-frame' peaks breaking front & backside with thick, clean long walled waves, with the occasional tubes. 'World-Class" believe me! All Israeli champions are 'seeded' there & came from their local breaks to be 'finely-tuned' by more experienced surfers - like Oran Weiss & Adi Glusker (from "Tel-Baruk" beach)& Amour Kansipalsky (Topsy`s boy) & Gali Zinner (Shaul`s boy) (from "Frishman" beach). When Sean Thompson visited us in 1983 he chose the Hilton to 'show us how to really surf' & as if he was the 'long awaited Messiah', the waves jacked-up to 2 metres & were classic for the week he surfed with us!Any really experienced Israeli surfer will acknowledge the Hilton beach`s uniqueness, so if your visiting us to surf, don`t miss the 'Hilton'!

Left or right? - Know the lay of the land: if you go straight, you end up on the rocks. Take the right, and you enter the gay section (mostly summer afternoons). Take the left on Saturday – no problem. Take the left any other day and you find yourself in the Jewish Orthodox beach, with is designated “men only” or “women only” on alternating days. No problem if you are the correct sex. However, you will be yelled at by the lifeguards if you catch a wave into that section when it is assigned to the opposite sex!
