Maravi - Until 1987 this beach suffered from being the main Tel-Avi-Jaffa sewage outfall 'victim'. You could see the classic waves but you wouldn`t dare surf there!! Turds & tampons everwhere, YUK!!!My personal contribution to sufing in Israel & Tel-Aviv is that I was the National Water Company`s site- construction engineer for the divertion of all the sewage from the sea-outfall to a new treatment plant just south of Tel-Aviv. Friend`s called me the one who 'kicked-the-shit-outa-the-waves'in Tel-Aiv. Literaly the pollution stopped & over a period of a couple of year`s 'mother-nature' cleaned-up & together with 'Neptune' gave us a new surfing break(& beach) to be proud of! If you take a look @ 'Best Photos' above, photo #2002-08-26, you have a back-drop of the entrance to the oldest sea-port in the world - ancient Jaffa (Jafo). Also, my friends, those rocks are THE mythalogical 'Andromeda`s Rocks' - awesome eh!?The 'Maravi' works on most swell directions, but like most Tel-Aviv surfing venues it works best on a SW swell, early morning offshores & windless conditions. You can pick-up on outside waves coming-thru` @ 2 - 3metres on the face & because of the combination of a small reef & the sandbar you get long solid well-formed walls breaking-off the peak front & backside. It`s preety-well consistent here & occasionaly your get some tubes. Locals are 'ucla' (cool) & after surfing your 'nuts-off' take a spicey pita-bread & almond juice from the Iconic Arab bakery 'Abulafia' in Old Jaffa (tell Sami Mel set yoo) - Awesome!
