Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Most of the year Blackies (named after the bar which you can see from the line up), is a friendly beginner/long board wave. In the summer months it stays smaller than the Newport breaks to the north. In the winter, Blackies can be a very different animal. With a solid northwest swell, blackies turns into one of OC's best beach breaks with heaving peaks and brutal crowds. If the sand fills in around the 28th street jetty to the north it can result in all time epic sessions.

Not new to Newp but new to surfing! - Ok so I hear Blackies is beginner friendly. How true is this really? I usually go down near jetty where there's no crowd.. But don't want to have any incidents w/ locals ... Anyone want to get together if ur new like me? I'm going to OCC surf class but that's in fall. I need buddies to go out and be kooky w/ now. Lol I have a longboard and a fish .... I also need to know where the calmest breaks area. I'm wanting to build my upper strength first and just paddle out where it's pretty mellow. Down by jetty was too choppy and I think blown out... It was windy. But anyone who needs a beginner buddy message me!!

Too Much Fun - Known for beginners, tourists, and extreme crowds, a reputation that may keep many away. Hardly a bad vibe, except around the 28th St jetty where I seen more than one conflict. Holds a south wind well and remains more surfable than many other spots. Some day are impossible with crowds and PARKING. Other days are full of grace. Don't miss it.

Ok 4 all of 'the OC' jerks that ever whined about Blackies; obvoiusly you're ALL full of BS! - After 30+ years as a Newport local surfer, this was where I got my first tube ride by the way, here's a spot that when monitored between Dec.-April u can catch it as excellent as ANY So.Cali beach-break gets when it works! End of story, it's all up 2 u people now, I've since that time retired from surfing. Go 4 it!!
