English (Traducir este texto en Español): Standard beachbreak, But seems to pick up swells better than most other close areas. Can get punchy and hollow barrels when big with a good swell direction. The more the swell is from the south the better this place works. On a big day you can catch the waves out in front of the rocks for a long left. Swell out of the west or north you can catch some short rights. The more north the swell is the more it starts to close out. Some submerged rocks in the area but only next to the jetty. For an easy paddle out you can jump off the jetty but be cautious its supper slippery. Parking can be almost impossible on a weekend and you need a military window decal for a good parking spot.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Good vibe, No locals, there can't be unless you are in the military. There might be a thousand campers on the beach but only 4 guys in the water. There are also nice hot showers. Getting on the base can be a pain, but if you are fortunate to have a sponsor, be gratefull. No kelp and usually a pod of dolphins hanging out in the area. One of the best beachbreaks in Southern California
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): This spot can be powerful and have some hollow barrels to the left on the right day with a small crowd

Going off - I was out saturday morning (Sept 23, 2006) I pulled up in the parking lot and damn near had a heart attack. It was a solid 6 foot and super clean and fast. The sun was out, the water was warm and I felt like I was on a surf trip somewhere. Deffinately the best day I've seen in a long time. And a whole 6 people out.

report - i surfed there religiously all summer(06) long, DMJ was ALWAYS better then the whole rest of oceanside beach/pier, takes a south hemi the best and when a little west gets mixed in some friggin sick peaks will pop up. winds are mostly sideshore so when there is a real southly swell hitting your riding almost parallel to the beach and into the winds, making some open barrels. Its a real beach break so the peaks will be in a different place all the time but there is allways at least 2 or 3 good ones on any given day which means plenty of room to spread out with cause it can get crowded on weekends. Be there at sunrise/sunset and you'll make friends with the pod of dolphins that is always around. Now I'm down at miramar and i miss that place ALOT, one of the few remaining CLEAN beaches due to the restricted access, and also no dealing with druggies/ dirtty hippies/thieves. o and when you're out there be nice to the few military surfers out with you!

pow devo ricky - Hung out there during the Spanish-American War. Big halibut slow surf, like 90% of San Diego. I've noticed in the last 30yrs that the surf in San Diego is smaller and slower than in the 60's.It sucks hearing little punks talk smack. I surf short boards, but learned on big boards, and these little pukes are bullshit. I know 60 year old men that surf better than 90% of these puke
little snot-nosed runts who talk smack because they don't think anyone is going to kick their ass, thinking surfing gives them the right to be turds. That's all they have. living with mummy, with no girl, no job, and a low IQ. I think these runts are pukes because everytime they look at an old fart on a longboard, they're wondering it it's their real daddy, and a possible new income
