English (Traducir este texto en Español): Well, Linda mar is a really picky spot. On average, it has bad to mediocre surf. But if you get a 5 foot northwest groundswell, a 17 second wave period, a medium tide (2009, changes w/sandbars each year), and light winds from the sse, Linda Mar might get good. So you really got to be a local to call it. There's also different peaks (north to south): the rock, crespi, the pumphouse, taco bell, the river, and boat docks. Also, watch out for the groms! There's a 95% chance that they're better than you.

English (Traducir este texto en Español): People are usually friendly. Don't be a bodyboarder on the inside and dropping in on surfers. Also some Longboard/shortboard disputs on good days. Perfect for beginners and good for all surfers.

Place has history - This spot means more to people then being just a spot. My friend, Alan Bogdanoff, passed away recently. We used to surf this spot all the time in the 80's. I paddle out here as much for the waves as tradition. To remember old times and old friends.
Most spots will be better then this nowhere spot, but LindaMar has its day. Respect it and the locals you might be surprised..

grumpy bald local - He is ridiculous. I am from S Cruz and whenever I visit my family in Marin or Mendocino, I love to stop and surf Linda Mar on the way up (and get taco bell!).
Everytime I go out, not only is it just horribly packed, even on the good days...there is this stupid larger Bald local guy out there with his big ass Pearson Arrow Board. Lime green outside flaming into the generic beige board color.
He is ridiculous...goes for all of the larger waves of the set and HARDLY gets them, I am done with this guy last time i got aggro back at him. Why the funk should I get out of some old dudes way for a wave he probably wont get? I am sure everyone else knows who I am talking about. This guy has got to go...local or not, hes just a poor excuse for a surfer.

go here if you are desperate - I have never understood why there are so many beginners here... it's a horrible place to learn. The wave quality is below average, paddling out can be tough, and it's super crowded. On heavier days it can be fun just to watch people trying to paddle out. If you must surf it, the waves on the north side tend to keep their shape a little better, but can be pretty heavy on big days. The south side is a bit easier to paddle out, but tends to crumbly. The south side is recommended for newbies.
