English (Traducir este texto en Español): Cowells is known as one of the best beginer surf spots in all of California. It's clean and fun, but crowded as hell, especially on a nice hot day. If you are a beginer than this is the spot for you! Parking sucks because it is right in the middle of Santa Cruz. DO NOT DROP IN on other people, that is not cool at any break. Lots of good longboarders will push you to get better. The only danger is other peoples boards.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Santa Cruz is beautiful, Cowells is right in the middle of everything, which kinda sucks, the water is nice, and in the summer no wet suit requried, people are always cool, except for the dick Sponjis that think they know how to surf
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Lots of beginners and surf schools which is really the only thing this wave is good for.I learned to surf here, so i really love it as a good surf spot, it by no means is the gretest spot in cali, but it holds a special place for me, i will always return there, pull out my longboard and go for some nice long rides.

- True it is a great spot to learn - easy wave, shallow sandy bottom, easy vibe. Watch out for overcrowding, lots of ppl in lessons and those darn SUP's snake every wave and drop-in. They should be banned from the breaks. If you can deal with that you'll get every wave since most ppl here are learning and don't make it onto the wave.

Great for the Kids! - As an East Coast surfer, I took my son to Cowell's and wasn't disappointed. The wave was typically a small summer wave, and the crowd did build as the tide went out, but it was great fun none the less. My 15 year old hadn't surfed in 3 years and after only a couple of waves managed a few 100 yrd plus rides. If you can get past the crowds it is a nice, soft, long, fun wave. Party waves typically have 10-20 people going straight, but every now and then a wave sneeks through or you dodge the crowd and get a great ride. We went out after the rental shop closed so the crowd was down to about 30 and very manageable as most of the new guys were setting up outside and not making the wave. SUP surfers can be a little annoying but generally the vibe is great and people are just out there to have a great time. I'd go back in a heartbeat and would love to surf it on a big day!

- In the summer Cowell's pretty much flatlines, but it can get epic any other time. The great thing about this spot is the bigger it gets, the less people are on it because the beginners won't be out.
Also an awesome spot for night surfing on a full moon. If it's too crowded Indicator's never has anyone on it.
