Eastend Jetty - Granted, those parallel jetties are bogus, but there's a perpendicular jetty just east of the pier that looks like it could be pretty fun during a big (h-cane) swell. There are also a bunch of interesting looking passes east of that - could be good if the channels are deep enough...and you've got a boat.

OIl spill - Apparently oil from the spill off the south east tip of Louisiana has drifted around to the west side of the Mississippi river delta,and washed up on Grand Isle.This will have severe environmental effects as this oil can invade swampy marshes almost all the way to the westbank of the Mississippi river into Jefferson Parrish[county to the rest of the US]

Off shore jetties - it looks like most of the East end of Grand Isle has 30+ jetties offshore approx 100-200 yds running parallel to the beach,thus blocking most wave action.The eastern most end looks like it could pick up some wave action,otherwise it's all about the west end of Grand Isle.I see the same thing[jetties] in store for Fourchon due to the lack of sediment from the Mississippi river not being allowed to run through the Atchafalaya Basin out to the Gulf.
