Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Fun wave with reforms. The main learning spot for Kauai south side surfers. Most contests are held here and are always fun to watch when there are good waves. Holds up to 6 feet, and still fun at a foot.

- how come you like act li'dat? if anything, you not showing true aloha...remember, it goes both ways. my husband is haole and he married me, a local girl...we travel and meet other locals from other places, and nevah once got hassled, know why?...because we show true aloha spirit. and we do the same when strangers visit our local surf spots. just cause you had some bad luck in da water, doesn't mean everybody is one spoiled haole from da mainland. what if someone prejudged you li'dat if you went surfing somewhere else? we live in paradise, count your blessings...

you'll be a kook everywhere you go - I might advise just going to Costa Rica. Kauai involves constant watching of manners, something most spoiled mainlanders cant do, complaining about the vibe, why can't I take any wave I want, the dumb locals etc. First, just because many locals dont speak "college - speak" doesnt mean they are dumb; in fact, quite the contrary. Kauai's basically another country compared to the mainland; if you do go, act accordingly, as in try to blend in. However, the more white you look and act, the harder this is to do. Always go solo, even having a chick with you makes you stand out. Better to befriend a wahine that's been on the island for a long time, they always know everyone and it can be a bit of an "in." if anyone ever says anything reomotely negative to you in the water, just leave, no matter how much fun you're having; it'll go in your favor if you ever surf there again. But, all this is too much for the average haole, I've seen it time and again; haole's are just too spoiled and can't get past the "hawaii's in the U.S. so I'm entitled to a good time" mentality. Youre not; even if you live there ten years, you're a visitor; act accordingly. You get what you give there, so from the moment you get off the plane, think this way: no matter how anyone looks at me, or what they say, I'll always show aloha myself. If you're not too white, you might get some aloha in return.

Big mushy longboard waves - Big mushy longboard waves
Aloha, I'm heading to Kauai for a few days next week. Looking for some big mushy longboard waves. Don't mind chop either, just want some warm water slides (home break is about 45F storm surf, so I'll be happy with just about anything really). Don't want to invade any fav spots with cranking tubes... just want to have chill time in some warm blue. Any suggestions?
