 Acceso

Drive into Caumsett Park on Lloyd Neck (in Lloyd Harbor Village in Huntington) without being noticed by the gate attendant. Look for the horse path heading north and run like hell for cover. Park rangers will kick you out if they catch you before you reach the beach.

When you reach the end of the dirt road head west down the beach to the sand point (it's very obvious)

Ambiente

While this spot rarely breaks well it can come together. I surf all year in Hampton Bays but it's still exciting to go surf a new place like this that nobody expects would break. We surfed it in August one year after a 30mph Northerly blow. The wind dropped off completely and we were there in trunks surfing nearly perfect head high lines with me and two friends out. We had a couple hours of absolute bliss before it crapped out.

General

This spot requires patience and local knowledge to hit it when it's on. Even though I much prefer my local ocean waves, it's great to surf a wave so fickle with so little fetch and get it good.

- i surfed in bayville about 5 or 6 years ago. a huuricane had decreased to a tropical storm as it headed NNW into the mainland around jersey. all the surf reports said that the surf was too gnarly on the ocean. so I checked the sound and low and belod there were other surfers out. the waves were head high slop that barely broke until it reached shore then just dumping. the older lifeguard said they hadnt seen it that big in 10 years. it was a novelty to surf for sure

de-mystified - always wondered if the north shore broke

- actually you can surf here. You need a strong north east wind for it to work so the swell/slop can fill in from the widest part of the eastern sound. Ive been there when it has, its not great but its possible.
