- Localismo
English (Traducir este texto en Español): The parking is designated for those with fishing stickers and Newport Residential stickers so watch out for tickets. Parking can be found on the streets around Ruggles. Ruggles is a right that breaks during any large swell. There are lots of large rocks in the takeoff area, the farthest point, and the most frequent point, creates a large barrel with sometimes spit on most days right on top of a group of rocks.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): This is the wave that has gained much fame and popularity and can get pretty crowded, so use your judgement and don't surf this wave if you aren't experienced. You can also guess that this is a locals wave, so once again use your judgement.<br />Ruggles lies on the cliff walk and is accompanied by Newport's famous mansions. Tourists love to walk along here and are amazed when they see surfers on big days in cold water.
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): This is a great right, one of the best waves on the East Coast.

WOW - This is a truly amazing thread here, I've never seen such bickering. I'm a traveling surfer myself (military, it comes with the job...) and had the opportunity to score some waves in RI yesterday. I won't name the spots out of respect, but I will say that the real surfers of RI are much different from the kooks posting here. It's just like anywhere else, you must understand the fact that the locals have a certain degree of priority because it's their home, and they will in turn probably respect that you have done that and not hassle you...and everyone has fun and gets some good waves. The East coast is a little different. I grew up in MD, but have since lived in CA, HI, Guam, and visited many other places, and of everywhere I went, I seemed to find places that get swell all the time. The East coast RARELY gets good swell, but when it does, the locals are stoked more than anywhere else that I've seen. So your best bet is to stay away from crowded spots during hurricane season, and don't create problems. The locals have waited to long to have chick drama in the lineup instead of Aloha and enjoyment of riding waves. And, if anyone who surfed with me out at #@$#%$^@^$, I'm the Navy guy from Saratoga Springs, thanks for the kindness you guys showed. There's a lot of aloha in Rhode Island, you guys rock.
