Stonewall Beach is a private beach with very few people ever on it. Squibnocket Beach is the public beach at one end of it, so you can walk to the private part. The private part is about 3/4 of a mile long, maybe more like a mile. Parking at Squibnocket.

 Información adicional

I stay in a house that is on a private street which has its own stair case down to the beach. If you ever are at Stonewall Beach you'll know what I mean. I think that parking at Squibnocket Beach is open to the public, but I'm not sure what the cost is.
This beach changes a lot over night, but if any change is bad it usually gets better for the next day. I reccomend contacting someone who is at the Vineyard before you head over for a weekend to find the beach in poor condition.
Facing the ocean from the Squibby lot, to your right is a point break with left breaking waves. To you left you will get a section with weaker, but longer waves. If you keep going about half-way to the next point you will find pretty hollow waves that are pretty strong.

Ambiente

This is my favorite spot to surf. There is no one, and I mean, NO ONE who will tell you to leave even though Stonewall is private. There are rarely any swimmers, but usually a few other surfers. There is plenty of room to have for yourself. Other surfers who are there are usually from houses up on the cliffs, but there aren't any jerks.

You will want to wear shoes to walk on the beach with because there are rocks piled up along the base of the cliff, rocks about the size of a tennis ball to bowling ball. This is very unique which gives the place a very different feel from your average beach on the cape.

General

To own a house on the land that has rights to the beach means having a lot of money or having the house in the family for a long time. Your average 2 bedroom, 2 bath, kitchen, tv room house on a half acre goes for $2-2.5 millon.

The people who are very wealthy are typically older and like to relax and watch others have fun. The ones who have had a house in the family for a long time understand "wats up" at Stonewall. They like to watch surfers from the top of the cliffs.

Nice Localism - I love when people think they own the ocean.

chilmark police suck - love the fact that tilman decided to let the world know about his favorite place to surf. oh by the way, i received a $250 ticket for parking near stonewall from the chilmark police, and it was november. these beaches aren't open to the public. let the locals surf, and keep the weekenders downisland in edgartown.

Whatever - I went to Squibnocket, parked and hung out with my wife and her cousin and nobody hasseled us at all. The locals were cool. There were a handful of long boarders surfing the right that breaks over the cobblestones and then there were some dudes on short boards ripping the left beach break. I surfed the right and we all had a great time. it was October and the water felt great and was nice and clear and there were glassy waist to chest high waves with the occassional shoulder high set peeling down the beach. Localism is ugly and pathetic, but I guess the two guys that responded to this are too cool to see past that. Losers.
