Jake, bodyboarder from LA - yooooo! just sessioned here all morning - me and one other dude, jorge.. and a bunch of sea lions. swell was modest (about 3', occ. 4') from the s/sw. wasn't very powerful, but it's super fun. the take-off point shifts a lot.. you're best to wait further outside than in.
access was tough, but worth it. the day before, the air force guards wouldn´t let me in. today i took a taxi from my hotel to where the road met the sea at the bottom of the runway. it's about a two mile walk up the beach, along the runway, until you climb up over the point and you're there. there are showers (don't drink the water) and umbrellas. oh, and they use WW2-era P51 mustangs for training at the FAE! in the US, you usually only see them at air shows!
jorge told me to take a taxi to the main gate of the naval station (navy and airforce share the same base, but have different enterances) and tell them "i want to see la choclatera", but then go to the FAE point break instead. apparently the air force won't let you in, but the navy will *shrug*.. the location shown on the map above is correct.
jorge also said that FAE is the spot to go when the waves are 'normal', but it won't hold much over 6-7 ft (too turbulent to surf), but that´s when shit bay starts breaking ;-)
make it out here, if you can! the water is warm, the locals are friendly, the seafood´s delicious (ecuadorian 'arroz marinero' > spanish 'paella'), and the weather's nice...

Jake, again - went out at FAE again yesterday.. bigger swell was on the way in (6'-7' surf).. the spot was still holding fairly well, but there was a lot of water moving around inside that little bay.. the wave still lacked some power, and was extra sectiony with the bigger swell, but i was able to connect from the furthest rock almost all the way to shore on a few occasions...
today is supposed to be 10'-12'! on my way to shit bay...
