English (Traducir este texto en Español): Two distinct peaks, inside (southern) peak is preferred, longer and cleaner rides. On big NW it can all line up. Low tide can offer ledgy barrells on all swells. Higher tide the wave turns into a performance wall.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Cool little town...though has become very crowded with hippies and travelers in recent years. A real scene on weekends when locals from all over the country converge on the point. The town to the south has fewer gringos and some good food.
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): The town is cheap, I mean very cheap, Lots of hippies (woodstock kind of hippies) all night long bars live music (doors-zeppelin-floyd-etc.)<br />Lots of foreign people, but 90% of people speak only Spanish. ie you can hang out with the gringos if you wish and think everyone speaks English, or learn some Spanish and actually meet people! There is a good Spanish school in town that is very surfer friendly.

localism - the locals are regulating the point now, if carlos or danillo, or a few other of the locals are in the water, don't paddle deeper than them or on their wave, i've seen that guy break a gringos nose before even saying a word...be careful, if you drop in on someone here or even paddle around the wrong guy, you better be prepared for a fight. it's the 3rd world, the cops will just laugh at you

Montanita is awesome - I've been going back and forth to Ecuador beaches.. its amazing! You do have to be carefull it is a 3rd world country.
Avoid weekends ("locals" not really, Guayaquilenos come from the city to the beaches to catch a wave. very territorial even though they are not from Montanita).
Every full moon there are tons of parties and raves called 'Fiesta de la Luna', but if you are not into the raves there are tons of bars, lots of Bob Marley, always good for the soul.
Galapagos are great if you want to explore a little bit more of Ecuador. Better surf there too.
