English (Traducir este texto en Español): Park up front in Punta Hermosa. Two access points for the wave. Either go to the middle of the bay and paddle directly ou, usually there is a direct channel to the wave, or walk right to the small headland/island and go in off the narrowest part of the causeway, paddeling through the remnants of the soft left.

La Isla is essentially a right, but a softer left wave peels most days. On big days this re-forms close to the beach and is enjoyed mostly by bodyboarders. The right, picks up steeply out in the middle of the bay over a rock platform, giving quality waves. In really big conditions, the bommie can throw up some huge faces. However, as it is between Pica Alta and Kon Tiki, it is less famous than these bigger brothers.
This area has little tidal movement, so the quality of the wave depends more on the size of the swell than on the tide.
Ambiente
English (Traducir este texto en Español): Usually a mellow beach, but it can be one of the more popular places around, so the usual problems can and do occur: thankfully Peruvians are pretty cool people and haven't (yet) been influenced by the American and European 'attitude surfers'....
General
English (Traducir este texto en Español): A very popular spot, due to the quality of the wave, and to the fact that it is one of the few good rights in the area (see als Caballeros). A challenging wave as the take-off is fickle.

Prejudice against brazilians a problem? - Hey guys, I'm going to Punta Hermosa this October, will stay at La Isla... I read a great deal about the plaace, and it seems peruvian surfers really hold a grudge against brazilians.
I understand that some (actually most) brazilians are jerks, I hate that as well. However I'm not like that at all. I respect everyone, never drop in, and pretty much just try to have a good time out in the water.
My concern is, do you think I will have a hard time there just for being a Brazilian? I hope I don't have a hard time over there because other brazilians trash the place.
What do you think?
Aloha!

La Rotonda Surf Hostal in Punta Hermosa - I have been coming to Peru for years and have spent plenty of time staying in several places around punta hermosa and my favorite is La Rotonda Surf Hostal. The owner Javier is the local shaper and not to mention an excellent surfer, he will share his local knowledge with you and make sure you get the best waves possible during your stay. The hotel is inside the punta hermosa communtiy, not outside. Maritas is good if your really on a budget, but her place is definalty further from the surf being out of the community. You must go down the cliff into the Hermosa community every time you want to surf and you will be paying full price for a taxi to take you surfing at the other breaks in the area if you to explore which you probably will. The dollar or two you save with her will be spent elsewhere. Javier will drive you on surf trips to the other breaks and you will get to paddle out with a local, you will be stoked for sure. This is for sure the place to stay in Hermosa, especially if your there for more than a few days. The waves in southern peru are amazing but like anywhere in the world you must be in the right place at the right time! Ask the security guards at the gate at the community entrance and ask for La Rotunda or ask around everbody knows him. Javiers place is the spot if you want the best waves and a nice place to stay with very reasonable pricing especially for longer stays in hermosa, go for it you will not regret it! Peru is amazing and he can help you set your trip up right!
